Essay

My guest and I entered the parking lot of City Café and found a parking spot directly in front of the restaurant. The exterior lights were not on since this was a lunch visit. I found the shrubs and geraniums surrounding the building to be in excellent condition without any signs of debris. The glass doors had several areas of fingerprints and smudges.

As we entered the restaurant, we found a line of eight people. We took our place in line and read over the overhead menu board. Everything was legible and we found it very easy to read. I decided to order the Veggie Sandwich and my guest ordered the Roast Beef Deluxe. Both entrees came with chips. When it was our turn, Loretta looked up at us and asked, “What can I get you?” She made eye contact, however did not smile. We placed our order and she did not offer an upsell of a muffin or fruit salad. She repeated my order, rang up the order and gave me my total. My total came to $7.95 and I gave her a ten-dollar bill. I received $2.05 in change and received the correct receipt. She handed me the pager and told me my order would be right up, but did not thank me.

My guest and I proceeded to find an empty table. The restaurant was at about 80% full with guests at the time of our visit. I found one table that had items left on it from the previous guest in the dining room on the northeast section of the building. That table remained unattended during our entire twenty-five minute lunch. Additionally, the table outside was the same way. This was the table in the picture within the survey. All other unoccupied tables were clean and ready for guests. The employee who worked as the greeter did not greet guests nor did she work on clearing the two above mentioned tables. She was near the condiment stand talking on her cell phone. I could not see her name tag; however, she was a female employee in her twenties, 5’ 4” tall, with long black hair pulled up in a bun. This went on for five minutes and then she disappeared into the back. Another employee, Emily, replaced her post. She greeted guests, however did not clear the tables during our visit.

We received our order in four minutes. Our pager went off and we went to the stand to get our meals. The condiment station was in excellent condition, especially considering how busy the restaurant was at the time. The sandwiches we ordered were delivered correctly. My special request was no onions on my sandwich. The food was very good. It was very fresh and we especially enjoyed the bread. As we ate, we could hear music playing in the background; however, it was too low to actually make out the songs. I noticed the Manager, Bob, worked mostly in the back end of the restaurant helping his employees prepare entrees for the guests. He never went out to the floor at any time.

As we were leaving, I stopped to check out the baked goods display. The Blueberry Muffins were out of stock as were the Chocolate Scones. There was a sign for Chocolate Tarts; however, Lemon Tarts were actually displayed. The display needed to be better organized; however, everything that was present looked fresh and was very appealing.

Overall, this was a very pleasant experience. The food service was fast and the quality was excellent. I have passed by this restaurant many times, but never stopped. After this visit I will be visiting frequently.
